YAY, we have almost finished sewing 72 prints onto 13 yards of fabric! Over the next day I will be posting crappy process shots of this project, instillation photos, and photos of the final show.

Here is my newest work, and Ive got this idea for the armadillo to pull something like a trailer full of trash or a semi. But I feel like there might be something better and so I would like to propose to steal great Ideas from others? Please let me know how you fill in  the following statement :

look, its an armadillo towing a __________________?

If you are a vis commer with free time and want to improve our reputation among basement dwellers, please give me a nicer logo than this by the end of the day.

For our Vis Com 2 class this last spring we did a poster competition for the Neustadt Festival. The Neustadt is a literary symposium hosted by World Literature Today and the University of Oklahoma. The goals in designing this piece, was to keep it abstract and conceptual.

My story begins a couple years in Texas, I decided to go to art school despite having never taken an art class in my life. In an attempt to prepare, I went to Barnes and Noble and bought “drawing on the right side of the brain” by Betty Edwards. This is where some of the drawings below come from, and I must say that for someone who had never drawn before, this book was an amazing help getting started. I practiced through the exercises in that book up until the fall semester of foundations where I was luckily assigned to Sohail Shehada’s drawing class. This class is where most of the other drawings come from. To summarize his class, I would just say you walk in and draw still life after still life. Through taking art class after art class and sketching everyday, I believe I have advanced pretty far from my first attempt at teaching myself with a book, but I am not ashamed of my early drawings and wanted to show where I came from. I would point your attention to the first drawing I made in this journey, the self portrait, it makes me sick to see how bad it is, but really to happy just knowing that I could do better without a fraction of the effort it took then. And that is my point, I believe my brain does fundamentally work differently now after my short time of doing art, art, and art 24/7 for a couple years. I feel like the almost permanent state of right brain thinking has effected every part of my life and I like it. No matter were my skill level ends up, I just cant see myself doing anything outside of art.

This is a project that I did back in foundations. The goal was to morph from a basic shape to a distinctive black and white translation of an object. I liked the idea of the down arrow turning into a balloon that is going up, and no, I did not get the idea from the Pixar film. Also, I am posting this because my arch nemesis Matt Magill posted his version and I just cant let that stand. This project was done in cut paper on illustration board.

This is an old project like many I am posting now. We built giant cardboard letters and then had to camouflage them against something.
